A Quiet Observer With Real Character!

Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak. Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen. ~~Sir Winston Churchill ~~With the upcoming year since the passing of Mr. Spearin, I'd like to send my thoughts out to his family and friends and provide a memory of Mr. Spearin. I never had Mr. Spearin as a "teacher" for a course, but I was fortunate to have him as a "teacher" in helping me and Fiaaz Walji compose our Valedictorian speech for the Class of '82. Mr. Spearin took the time during lunch breaks and after school to sit with two Grade 12 students, who thought they knew it all, so to speak. He took the time to figure out our personalities, our styles and our message. I remember Mr. Spearin as a quiet man but with real character. He didn't come across as someone who was telling us what we should say, or do, but rather, guided us, challenged us and inspired us to compose the best speech we could for our graduating class. He listened to what we had to say and gave his suggestions to give our message more clarity and cohesion. I can remember thinking during that time with him that I had accomplished something if I was able to make him chuckle! The fact that he took time to spend with us to help us to create something that we'd leave behind as we walked the path to our next journey, showed great patience, kindness and dedication. I wish that I had had the opportunity to meet Mr. Spearin late in life, to thank him once again and to tell him that even as a 16 year old girl, I had sensed his strength in character! Wherever you are Mr. Spearin, I know that you're a guiding force!~~ Moi Vienneau Class of 1982, Sir Winston Churchill
