The Year Was 1952

Rennie 'Ron' arrived in Halifx in February of 1952 in the dead of winter with a couple of close mates from  Malta his homeland. Surviving WWII in Malta was not for the feabile of heart as the island had become a strategic refueling post for the British airforce and was the second most heavily bombed region by Germany through out the war effort. Not knowing about Canadian winters Ron and his two closest friends arrived with nothing more than summer clothing on,  and each a large trunk containing all of their personal belongings. They left the ship and headed onto Canadian soil with their trunks hoisted high on their shoulders and a dream about a new and exciting life in Canada. One can only imagine the amount of courage it took to move to a strange country as a young man not knowing the language. But Ron fought the good fight and created a life for himself and eventually for he and his wife Anna and their two children. Ron a life long die hard Tiger-Cat fan retired from the Ford Motor Company after having worked there for over 30 years at the manufacturing plant in Oakville, ON. He spent the next almost 30 years enjoying a comfortable retirement lifestyle in Burlington, ON spending endless hours gardening, shopping, going out for coffee along with regular daily walks with Ann.  Ron and Ann were truly blessed  spending their winters together in the sunny south in Florida where they had spent their honeymoon decades earlier. From the early 1950s here in Canada until his last gracious days with us Ron made the most of his life and will surely be missed by both family and friends alike. Rest in peace Rennie!
