Mary Beth and I absolutely loved being at Port Stanley. Mom and Dad's cottage was at Erie Rest there, on the hill, just up from the beach. We rode our bicycles all over the village of Port---stopping quite often , at the drug store, for a milkshake, before heading up the big hill to Orchard Beach, where Mary Beth knew a girl called Verna---- Then Verna, Mary Beth and I would ride lickety split, down the hill, back into town, and over to the harbour to watch what boats had come in--then away we would go, over to the Board walk, to Mackies--I always said that we were like a couple of hooligans---
We knew that we had to be home by dinner time, which was quite often Perch , which Mom would fry up.We both had a few boy friends who lived in Port all year and Dad always nicknamed them---" Skip the drip"----"Horsey Bill" --(He worked at the horse stables)---I can't remember the rest, but we knew by Dad's nick names, these guys weren't Dad's picks for his daughters.
We shared a room upstairs at the cottage--- Our room hsd an outside stairway----but to get up into it, we had to creep past Mom and Dad's window-
I remember the thunder storms at night---and how the thunder would go up and down the lake. Mary Beth never minded these noisy very loud storms-- She and Mom used to enjoy watching the lightning--I was petrified-!
I would give anything to relive those carefree days at the cottage --with Mary Beth----
