Message: My heartfelt condolences to David's family in this time of his passing.

Message: As someone who is rarely at a loss for words and never shy about expressing an opinion, the recent loss of Dave Betzner has left me shocked and speechless. Dave and I both served on the Brock Alumni Board which is were we first met, became friends and shared the common goal of promoting the need for a meaningful homecoming that would attract and appeal to alumni, promote attendance and foster the bond of collegial community. Our chance arose in 1989 when Brock celebrated it's 25th anniversary. The Alumni Board took the unprecedented action and one completely at variance with the wishes of the University's administration, to change homecoming from it's traditional November date to September in order to co-ordinate with Grape and Wine Festival events. In addition to numerous other homecoming activities, the Alumni Board decided to enter a float in the parade which in retrospect was an ambitious undertaking that without Dave's help and contacts never would have gotten out of the hangar let alone in the air. Being a Grimsby native Dave was able to obtain a truck, float and driver from a local benevolent industry as well as assisting in the construction of a vary large and impressive birthday cake display honouring Brock's 25th anniversary. It is to Dave's credit and a tribute to his memory that he was instrumental in facilitating this event and being an active participant in a memorable page of the Universities growing history. Dave Betzner was a good man, a good friend and a committed alumni. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
