Obituary for Beryl Thomas (Virgin)

Beryl Thomas (Virgin)
THOMAS, Beryl

Beryl passed gently into that good night (June 6th, 2017). A little proud Welsh woman who loved with her entire heart. She was a loving mother, Nanny, and devoted wife of Ted. Beryl’s passing is marked with deep sorrow; yet, we celebrate the life of a tremendous woman whose kind, selfless, compassionate, and optimistic nature held true throughout her ninety-one years. Born in Troedyrhiw, South Wales on February 25th 1926, Beryl grew up among the rolling Welsh countryside and remained a proud Welsh woman her entire life. She was devoted to her husband, Ted, their love surpassing the amount of years they shared on this earth together.

She was a skilled baker and made wonderful pastry. Welsh cakes were our family’s favourite. Beryl cooked memorable Sunday family dinners, which consisted of roast beef and Yorkshire pudds with all the trimmings. Mom’s favourite was always a leg of lamb.
Beryl’s hobbies included crocheting, crossword puzzles, and counted cross stitch. Her works grace our walls to this day. She took great delight in watching her favourite British television programs and musicals. Christmases were always special with each grandchild receiving their Cadbury Selection Boxes and Advent calendars.

Mom enjoyed many years of retirement in her home in Florida with her beloved Ted where they enjoyed the ocean and their quiet life. Beryl was actively involved with volunteering at the local hospital lady’s committee, the local elementary school, and the Girl Guides of Canada where she was known as “Wise Owl.” Beryl was a good Christian woman whose faith in the Lord never faltered; when younger she taught Sunday School at our local parish.

Loving mother of Pat, Kathy (Larry), Tony (Kathy), and Sharon (Andy pre-deceased), and adoring Nanny of Julie, Ashley, Crystal (Brodie), Daniel, and Van. Great-grandmother of Cadence, Katie, and Ryan. Mom always held this quote near and dear to her heart:
“To be born Welsh is to be born privileged. Not with a silver spoon in your mouth, but music in your blood and poetry in your soul.”
Beryl leaves behind many friends and family both here and in Great Britain. She will be missed by her family in Wales, where they will “keep a welcome in the hillsides.” Respecting Mom’s wishes, a private cremation has taken place. We would like to thank Dr. Zhu (JBMH) for his excellent care of our Mom/Nanny.

Mom, it was an honour and a privilege to be your daughter and to take care of you.
We will miss you tremendously and love you forever. Thank you for being such a positive role model in all of our lives and loving us unconditionally. May angels and faeries watch over you.
