Obituary for Patricia Jean Bowman

Patricia Jean Bowman
Bowman, Patricia Jean (née Rodger)
Peacefully with her family at her side, at Toronto Western Hospital on Tuesday, March 19, in her 87th year. Beloved mother of Gary and his wife Nancy, Nancy and her husband Carson Kelly, and Susan and her husband Larry Code. Respected and loved by her Grandchildren, Connor and Dana Bowman, Jennifer Pollock (Kevin) and Jeff Kelly (Lydia), Adam Code (Melanie) and Sarah Code who will miss her dearly.
Mom was born in Hamilton and lived in the Westdale area while growing up. It was at Westdale United Church where she met the love of her life Brian (2014) and they enjoyed a wonderful 58 years together. She is predeceased by her parents Iva and Robert Rodger, and by her sister Joan Moyle. Survived by sister Betty Cuppy of Peterborough and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was a primary school teacher with the Hamilton and Halton Boards of Education for many years. She was a member of East Plains United Church in Burlington. Mom had her ARCT certification from the Royal Conservatory of Music. An accomplished soloist in her youth, she carried on with her music as a member of East Plains Choir, Musica Gloria and the Choral Belles. Born with a congenital heart defect, the doctors said she wouldn’t live past age 3. She proved them wrong and led a rich and fruitful life even while toting her oxygen portable around for almost 20 years. She loved spending time at the cottage with Dad in Southampton where she enjoyed painting and taking art lessons at the Southampton Art School. Many happy summers were spent at the cottage in her youth, and in later years with family and friends, always around to share the sanctuary of Southampton.
Our thanks go out to the wonderful staff in the Surgery and ICU units at Toronto Western Hospital including Dr. McCredie, Dr. Dhar and Dr. Goffi who supported Mom's journey to the end. Thanks also to the doctors and staff at the Toronto General Hospital, Peter Munk Cardiac Centre for their honest concern and caring for Mom over the past years. To Doctors Oechslin, Wichert-Schmidt, Granton, Hassan, Thenganatt, Nair, Laflamme, Snow - you helped to keep her alive and kicking, and gave her a reason to keep going!
