Obituary for Alick Stephen Duguid
Duguid, Alick – It is with heavy hearts and overwhelming, unbearable grief that the family of Alick Stephen Duguid announces his heart-wrenching, unexpected passing while in Mexico on Friday January 4th, 2019 with beloved wife of 31 years, Caroline (Mauth) and fond friends Dr. Kevin and Delora Batten. In the minds of his three children Brent, Katie and Graham, there are not enough words to describe their wonderful, gentle, loving and dedicated father who was so dearly adored and treasured.
Predeceased by his Parents James (Jimmy) and Gladys, Nephew Stephen, Uncle Bud (Alick) and Father-in-law Manfred Mauth. Alick was a cherished Brother to Madeline Chambers (John) and Linda Duguid (Danny), adored Uncle to Lisa, Ryan, Amanda, Blake, Lily and Spencer, and Great Uncle to Amanda, Jessica and Tyler. Treasured Nephew to Dick Evans and Beverly Duguid. Precious Son-in-law to Jane Mauth and adored Brother-in-law to Denise, Trudy and Jane (Wade). Fondly remembered by many cousins.
Alick was a gentle and devoted husband and father who had boundless love for his wife and children and placed them above all else. After the passing of Caroline’s father in 1997, Alick stepped in and assumed the patriarchal role to her three sisters, so far as to walking her youngest sister Jane down the aisle on her wedding day in 2002. From then on, he continually kept a watchful eye over the entire family.
Friends will remember him as profoundly kind, generous, selfless, dependable, genuine and loyal. Alick was highly respected by his colleagues in the sales industry. He was frequently described as a man of sincere authenticity and integrity.
Alick supported and coached his son’s BLOMHA hockey team for many years and will be remembered by fellow coaches and team members for his subtle, yet hilarious, comments on the bench and in the locker room.
Alick is remembered by the Halton Women’s Place team as a strong supporter and active participant in numerous Hope in High Heels walks to end Violence Against Women.
Alick had a way of indirectly inspiring people to be a better version of themselves. He was a fountain of knowledge with incredible wit and humour and took forever to tell a story. Alick was a clever adversary during nightly bouts of Jeopardy and was always open to a round of Cribbage. His extensive vocabulary made him unbeatable at Scrabble. His knowledge of classic movie trivia far surpassed his knowledge of 21st century technology and his children are forever grateful for the wisdom he passed on. Family game night and Superbowl Weekend will never be the same, but the memories created with his wife and children will be cherished for a lifetime.
Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 GUELPH LINE, (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON, 905-632-3333 on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2265 Headon Road, Burlington, on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 11 a.m. Private Cremation.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alick can be made to Halton Women's Place, the Ontario Federation for Cerebral Palsy, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
Dad, Mom always said that you would be late for your own funeral. We are relieved to finally have you back home with us in Canada.
We will love you forever.
