It is with great sadness to announce that John “Cookie” Cookson aged 81 years passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Tansley Woods Long Term Care Facility in Burlington, Ontario. He was born August 26, 1937 in Liverpool, England to Kenneth and Ethel Cookson (nee Duncan) and moved to Canada with his family in 1970. He worked many years at Westinghouse/Seimens in Hamilton Ontario. He retired in 2002. Cookie truly lived life to the fullest. He was a true Liverpool Football Club supporter and attended many games when he lived in England. He was fondly known as Pops, Dad, John Boy and Johnny. Cookie loved spending time with his family and many friends. John leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years Doreen (nee Nelson), his children Karl (Tania), Beverly and his beloved dog Sadie. He will be sadly missed by his grandkids, great-grandkids, his entire family, friends, co-workers and neighbours. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Tansley Woods LTC for making his time spent there so memorable and treating him like he was one of your own family members.

A Memorial Gathering will take place at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Sunday, January 13 from 4-7 p.m. For those who wish, donations in memory of Cookie to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
