Obituary for Martin Clifford Hazelden

Martin Clifford Hazelden
The Hazelden family announces with great sadness the unexpected passing of Martin Clifford Hazelden, 72, on the evening of Saturday, December 29, 2018. Beloved husband and Father, he survives his wife Linda of Burlington, son Mark (Daughter-in-law Joanna, and Grandad to Eli and Maggie), daughter Olivia (son-in-law John) and extended family across several countries. Martin made friends easily wherever he went, building relationships that lasted a lifetime. He was a devout member of St. Luke’s Anglican (where he joked "they sing better than anyone!"), and a devoted volunteer to community and charitable organizations (The Bruce Trail Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Nature Conservancy, and the VON to name a few). Martin loved making everyone laugh, telling stories of growing up in the post-war "dark ages" in south England, his time at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City (where he met Linda), immigrating to Toronto via Saskatoon and Halifax, and global adventures. Martin was an avid athlete, running several marathons a year, even qualifying for the Boston Marathon. He would use marathons and business trips as excuses to explore new places, a curiosity he instilled in his kids. His love of nature was cemented in countless kilometers hiked, usually along the Bruce Trail, and on camping trips to Killbear Provincial Park. He loved learning, first attending the University of Surrey for hotel management, and later completing an MBA in Canada; he became a lifetime CPA member in 2017. He will enjoy watching his beloved children and grandchildren grow up from above, and will surely expect that his many friends in Canada and overseas provide him updates, preferably by post, from time to time. His beautiful voice with that light English accent and funny turns of phrase will be forever missed. We hope you’re finally running marathons again, Dad.
