Obituary for Paul Smye

Paul Smye
How do you sum up of the life of someone you love when your heart is broken?
Paul was born to Murray and Dorothy Smye on October 25, 1936 in Toronto, Ontario. The family eventually moved to London, Ontario where Paul met his high school sweetheart, Marilyn. They were married for 58 years. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario’s HBA program he began his long and successful career with Bell Canada. Starting in Hamilton, he transferred to Toronto and then on to Montreal where the family learned to ski, back to Toronto and finally culminating in two stints in Saudi Arabia. Through it all, Burlington remained home base.
Following his retirement, Paul spent summers working in the pro shop at Tyandaga Golf Course and, of course, wintering in his beloved Naples, Florida.
Paul enjoyed travel, skiing and curling but his main passion was golf.
Paul will be remembered as
- Being devoted to his family
- A real gentleman and a gentle man
- Someone who would do anything for others
- Having a great sense of humour and a mischievous smile
Paul will be forever missed by his wife Marilyn, son Ted (Jackie), daughter Kathy and his grandchildren Alexa, Jason and Justine. He’ll be missed by too many other friends and family to list.
Our family cannot say enough about the special care received from the staff and volunteers at the Carpenter Hospice. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts.
