Peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital with his family by his side, Giovanni passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018 at the age of 96. Survived by his loving wife Esterina. Predeceased by his parents Michele and Maria Vincenza Maurizio and his parents-in-law Angelo and Maria Grazia Ialacci. Loving father of Joseph and Denise Maurizio, Michael and Arlene Maurizio and Velia and Nicola DiCarlo. Loving Nonno to Jessica and Nicholas Cooper, Nadia and Kevin Walsh, Johnny Maurizio, Leah and Andre Simon, Adam Maurizio and Daniel DiCarlo. Great-grandfather of William, Caroline, Cressida and Cohen. Dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Giuseppe and the late Antonietta Maurizio. Dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Domenico and the late Rosa Maurizio. Dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Maria and the late Antonio Cieri. Dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Vittorio and Delia Maurizio. Dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Iolanda and the late Gaudenzio Spidalieri. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Ernestina and the late Antonio Palmieri. Dear brother-in-law of the late Adele Ialacci. Dear brother-in-law of the late Vincenzo and Concettina Ialacci. Dear brother-in-law of the late Pietro and the late Giuliana Ialacci. Dear brother-in-law of the late Gina and the late Guido DiCesare. He also has many nieces and nephews in Canada, the United States and Italy. Giovanni was a dedicated employee of Dufferin Construction for 28 years. His life’s passions were winemaking, vegetable gardening, long walks and his family. A special thanks to the staffs of the Juravinski Hospital and St. Peter’s Hospital. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Monday, December 17, 2018, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Prayer Vigil Monday at 4:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Incarnation of Our Blessed Lord Roman Catholic Church (Nash Road and Barton Street) Hamilton, on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 9 a.m. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
