Condolences

Condolence From: Glenda Baert
Condolence: Aunt Betty will be sadly missed by myself, her niece, and my family. She has been such a blessing to me all of my life. We celebrated many milestones together and I have many lovely memories which I shall cherish. As a child, I remember many Sundays traveling to Burlington to visit her and my Grandmother and also visiting for a week each summer. She always had something fun and exciting planned for us. She had a zest for life and was always encouraging. Her faith in God gave her strength. She loved and celebrated family!

Condolence From: Mary Williamson
Condolence: Betty Williamson (Stubbs) is my first cousin, and my last living first cousin with the exception of Tom Williamson who has lived most of his adult life in Montreal. From the 1930s to 1956 we regularly met at family reunions, always held at Aunt Emily Williamson’s house on Water Street (now Lakeshore, and still standing). In 1935 Aunt Emily became the first female lawyer in Halton County. On every second Christmas we would meet at Aunt Emily’s – usually over twenty of us – and then walk the short distance to the Estaminet Restaurant (now Emma’s Back Porch) for a Williamson family Christmas dinner. Each Fall Betty accompanied her mother, who was an amazing cook, to county fairs in the Burlington area where Aunt Lillian almost always won red and blue ribbons for her baking and pickling, and flowers. Up until about ten years ago Betty shared with me her mother’s recipes including one for bran muffins that had been published in a local newspaper.

Condolence From: Carol Williamson
Condolence: Betty was my aunt and was always welcoming on my visits to Burlington after my family moved to Saskatchewan and Alberta. She faithfully sent me a card each Christmas, Easter and on my birthday. Each card included a letter detailing all the events in her life and that of the family. I am grateful for the 'Life History' she wrote with information of the Williamson/Brown families. She gave a copy to each of her nieces. I also enjoyed the times she took me to the meetings of the Burlington Historical Society and the United Empire Loyalists meetings in Hamilton.
