Obituary for Jan "John" Holko

Jan "John" Holko
Holko, Jan “John” -

Peacefully at Emmanuel House, Hamilton, on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at the age of 69. Loving brother of Stan (the late Mary) and Andrew (Jacquie). Cherished uncle of Stan Jr. (Stephanie), Justin (Kaitlyn), Jenna (Peter), Erin, Adrian, Renia, Gabriela, Maksymilian, Nicholas, Aleksa, Jake, Luke, and Zofia. Predeceased by his parents Antoni and Wanda (nee Ramos). John was a social person. He had an inquisitive nature, an interest in history, gardening, animals, art, and was happy to enjoy the moment. He loved to reminisce. He had hands of steel and gave the most sincere hugs. His unique sayings made you think and then laugh. John was born in Bardo, Poland during the difficult postwar period and immigrated to Canada at the age of 10 years old. He attended St. John’s School and enjoyed living in Burlington. He was proud to be Canadian, Polish and fluent in both. We sometimes forgot about the difficulties he faced in his daily life, and how despite them he always appreciated others and remained thankful and polite even for the simplest of favours. He loved his family deeply and made many friends throughout his life’s journey. John and his family thank the caring people at AbleLiving and Emanuel House for their devotion. John’s life reminds us to appreciate our talents and the opportunities we sometimes take for granted. John, we look forward to seeing your smile again. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 6pm – 9pm, with vigil prayers at 8:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church (2261 Parkway Drive, Burlington) on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in John’s memory to AbleLiving (Binbrook) or Emmanuel House would be sincerely appreciated by the family.

Wieczne odpoczywanie Jan.
