Obituary for Sheila Grace Grogan (McCoy)

Sheila Grace Grogan (McCoy)
GROGAN, Sheila Grace (nee McCoy)

At the age of 85, Sheila passed away peacefully with her children by her side, on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Joseph Brant Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, James Grogan.

Born in Hamilton to Theresa and James McCoy, Sheila was the loving mother to Terry (Penny) and Lynn (David Ferguson) and proud grandmother of Zach, Ben and Liam; and Andrew and Claire. Sheila was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her siblings Reg McCoy, Doris McCoy and Eleanor Morris.

Soon after their marriage, Jim and Sheila moved to their first house in Burlington where they lived ever since. Sheila’s many friends in the neighbourhood were very important to her and kept her young at heart to the end.

As Sheila liked to say, very few babies were born in 1933 and so those who were are very special. Sheila certainly proved that was true -- she was smart, funny and loved to have a good time. She brought so much love and laughter to her family. Sheila would never turn down a game of Euchre or a “quick” game of Scrabble but Pictionary was her Achilles Heel. “Cat on a Fence” was the only drawing she perfected but her grandchildren loved it. Sheila loved spending time with friends and family -- movie nights in the neighbourhood, monthly trips to the casino, tinkering in her garden, summers at the cottage, making endless “to do” lists for her children and niece Sandra Morris. She loved going to parties and hosting them herself. Sheila was always so well informed and had a great outlook on life. Recent issues with Sheila’s back slowed her down, but she pushed herself to keep busy and enjoy life. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

In keeping with Sheila’s wishes, there will be no funeral service however the family plans to hold a celebration of Sheila’s life early in 2019. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Joseph Brant Hospital for their care and compassion. Memorial donations in memory of Sheila may be made to The Good Shepherd Development Office, P.O. Box 1003, Hamilton, ON, L8N 3R1; or to a charity of your choice.
