Obituary for John Burla

Burla, John

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John on Monday, November 12, 2018 at the age of 91. Loving husband to Frankie (Kominko) for 66 years. Beloved father to Dennis (Anna), Sherry Zych (Billy), Douglas (Jenn), Robert (Elaine) and Richard (Melissa). Predeceased by his son David (Sandra) January 2018. Cherished and loving Papa to Darryl (Giovanna), Kevin (Julija), Paige (Justin), Alex, Jordan, Jarod and Great Papa to Ethan, Colin, Lexi, Natalia and Nixon. John will also be dearly missed by his sisters Marion, Joyce and Shirley. He leaves behind his loyal fur babies Joey and Ginger. John was a fifty-five year member with the International Brotherhood of Electrical workers and he retired from Cosens Electric after more than thirty years. He took great interest in farming and since the early 1960’s, John’s main hobby was farming and selling fruit at various markets. Eventually establishing the famous Frankie and Johnny’s Fruit Stand in 1973 on Hwy. 8 in Stoney Creek. They loved visits from their regular customers and seeing familiar faces every summer.A special Thank You to the ICU staff at the Hamilton General Hospital for the extraordinary care and compassion that they provided. Cremation has taken place. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Service of Remembrance will be held at Smith's Funeral Home on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. If desired, memorial contributions to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
