Obituary for David Woodward

WOODWARD, David -
David passed away after a battle with cancer, surrounded by his family at The Carpenter Hospice in Burlington surrounded by family on Sunday, November 4th, 2018 at the age of 76. Devoted and loving husband of Ann-Louise (nee McCarthy) for 51 years. Cherished father of Adam Woodward (Callie) of Burlington and Ashley MacGuire (Rob) of Tampa, Florida. He adored his grandchildren Jackson, Will, Avery, and Emma. Honourary father to Leah Bisutti (Perry), and grandfather to Sam and Isaac of Burlington. Dear brother-in-law of Paul McCarthy (Janie Salazar) of League City, Texas. David will also be missed by his extended family, numerous friends and wide variety of colleagues.
David was an elementary teacher and principal with the Halton District School Board for 31 years before retiring and moving on to be part of the management team at a movie theatre (AMC). He then spent the next thirteen years after that tending to the gardens at Tim Hortons Head Office. As gardening was one of David’s true passions, his most recent years were spent gardening privately for homeowners, estates and businesses that needed his expertise. He was naturally talented at creating beautiful gardens. David was also an avid traveler, belonged to both the Probus Club and Historical Societies in Burlington and was certified United Empire Loyalist. Just recently David also authored “Pathway through Memories”, a historical memoir of the people who once lived in Burlington’s Burloak Waterfront Park. David will be missed by all who knew him, but will forever be in their hearts.
As per his wishes, Private Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON, 905-632-3333, on Friday, November 16, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. where a Service of Remembrance will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, November 17, 2018 beginning at 10 a.m., with a reception to follow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations in David’s memory to The Carpenter Hospice, The Royal Botanical Gardens, or Bladder Cancer Canada would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
