Condolence From: Linda and Doug Reid (Calgary)
Condolence: Our sincere condolences to all Mike's family. Linda and I met while staying in residence at UTM (Erindale 1974) under the watchful eye of Big Mike. I played basketball for Mike at Erindale and was taught a lot about character and being the best I could be. We both learned from Mike's guidance. 25 Years after Linda and I graduated, our son attended UTM and got to experience Mike's leadership first hand while he was a residence Don. I had lunch with Mike this past April and told him how significant an influence he was in my life and how thankful I was for what he did for me. I know there are many of us who can say the same thing. I am sure that Mike didn't realize just how many people he touched. He was a true role model, teacher and friend. We will miss him deeply.

Condolence: Mike, you were so much more than simply a friend. The life experiences you gave me, the life lessons you taught me and the happiness and laughter you infused into my life has changed me as a person. Don't worry Mike I will always place the 5,6 in your memory. To say I will miss you is the greatest understatement I can make.

Condolence: Unfortunately, I didn't know Mike for very long; the last 6-7 years I guess. Yet, he somehow got me to read more books than all my high school teachers ;) ...and even in his 80's, he somehow always seemed better dressed than me. His passion for family, education, and his neighbour will forever make me a better person, friend, father. Thanks and miss you.

Condolence: My heartfelt condolences to Cathie, Janine, LeAnne, Christine, Mike and the whole Lavelle family. Big Mike and your family were a big part of my life from my early teens to early adulthood. As a coach, Big Mike took me under his wing, teaching me skills and leadership by having me assist with the MBA program and as a camp counsellor at Olympia. He continued his tutelage while I worked at the UTM residences in the summers. I truly looked up to Big Mike as my mentor. He will be sadly missed.
