COLES, Dudley Wortley (Commissioner)

Commissioner Dudley Coles was peacefully promoted to glory on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the age of 92. Beloved husband of Evangeline Coles for 62 years. Cherished father of Heather Gawronski (Mike), Howard Coles (Cheryl) and Graham Coles (Julie). Proud grandfather of Aidan, Colin, Samantha, Adam, Jordan, Zachary, Ryan and Justin; and great-grandfather of Taylen. Dear brother of Bramwell (Dorothy), Alan (Brenda), Joan Carter (late John), the late Gordon (late Pat), the late Raymond (Catherine), and the late Norman Coles (Faith). Dudley will be sadly missed by many extended family and friends.

Dudley was a WWII veteran and as a member of the Royal Navy, saw action his first night at sea. He was commissioned as a Salvation Army Officer in 1954 and has dedicated his life to helping others in God’s service. He spent 15 years in India and later, 5 in Sri Lanka. His final appointment was 4 years in London, U.K. as International Secretary for South Asia where he focused on the great needs of the region which always held a special place in his heart. His motto was “make the world a better place”.

Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Burlington Community Church of the Salvation Army, 2090 Prospect Street, Burlington. In keeping with Dudley’s wishes, cremation and a private interment have taken place. As an expression of sympathy, donations made to the Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated. Special thank you to the caring staff at The Village of Tansley Woods and Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital.
