Obituary for Olga Brooman (Collard)

Olga Brooman, beloved mother, Nana, sister, aunt and friend died Saturday September 8th peacefully at Albright Manor in Beamsville at the age of 83. Mom will be greatly missed by her four children; Alison Brooman, Stephanie Fortier (Larry), Fyonna Vanderwerf (Jeff) and David Brooman. Amazing Nana to Tao, Tess, Dawson, Dexter, Jude, Sydney and Jakob. Dear sister to Irene Taylor. Beloved aunt to Hilary and Teddy and their clan (Tristan, Jared, Austin and Myles), Matthew Stevens and many nieces and nephews in England. Mom’s greatest happiness was spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren grow and thrive. She was a very supportive and selfless Mom who always put others first.
Born outside London, England in Bromley, Kent, she emigrated to Canada in the late 50’s. Mom carried a love of British culture, particularly a slight obsession with the royal family. She adored reading British literature and Anne of Green Gables and enjoyed watching and re-watching her beloved series of Pride & Prejudice as well as anything with Tom Hanks or Colin Firth.
Mom was a dedicated member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Grimsby for over 30 years. She loved singing in the choir and was an active member of the ACW, running the legendary ‘Turkey Suppers’ for many years. Her faith was an enormous comfort to her and she cherished her ministers over the years; John Hesketh, Stuart Pike, Malcolm Evans and Max Woolaver.
Our family owes an enormous debt of gratitude to the amazing PSW angels of the 5th floor at Albright Manor. David, Sandy, Nora, Shalome, Brittany, Amanda, Richard, Cheryl and Wendy treated our Mom like family over the past 3 years and went over and above every day to ensure her comfort and happiness. She relished the gathering of staff in her room to chat. Thank-you also to the Recreation Staff, especially Maria, and her medical team including Dr.Bender and the dedicated nursing team, particularly Max, Holly, Anna and Louise, who made her last days as peaceful as possible.
Cremation has taken place. A Service of Remembrance will take place at St.Andrew’s Anglican Church, 156 Main Street West, Grimsby on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
If desired, donations to the Albright Resident’s Fund or St.Andrew’s Anglican Church would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
