Obituary for Loretta Mary Cameron (Galivan)

Loretta Mary Cameron (Galivan)
Peacefully at Wellington Park Care Centre, Burlington on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the age of 85. Beloved wife of the late Arthur (2001). Survived by her loving daughter Beverly and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brother William “Bill” Galivan (1987) and infant son Daniel John (1965).

Loretta was raised in East Flamborough on her grandparent’s farm before moving with her family to the north end of Hamilton. She has always maintained that this is what made her able to withstand life’s many challenges. She worked at St. Joe’s, Chedoke, and the Ontario Hospital in London in various administrative capacities prior to marriage to Arthur. She enjoyed volunteering at St. John’s school and church, with the C.W.L. and was always there to assist her family and neighbors over the years. Special thanks to Cecilia of Acclaim Health for 6 years of wonderful home care. Also, to the staff of Christopher Terrace and the compassionate staff of Wellington Park who took excellent care of her especially in her final days. The family would also like to thank everyone at Harry Zahoruk’s office for their continued support over the last 9 years, often at a moments notice.

Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers for Loretta at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church (2016 Blairholm Ave, Burlington) on Wednesday, September 12 at 10:30 a.m. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial contributions in memory of Loretta to a charity of your choice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.

After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.

"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."

He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.”
