Obituary for James Edward "Jim" Seabrook

James Edward "Jim" Seabrook
Jim passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on August 3, 2018, family at his side. Beloved husband of Barbara (Sherry) for 57 years. Devoted father of Elizabeth and Carolyn (Don). Cherished grandfather of Kyra (Angela), Feena and Julian. “Jimmy” is pre-deceased by his dear mother, Florence Edith, father Leslie, and brothers John, Peter, Ronald and Brian.

Jim was born in London UK and during WWII was relocated to the country town of Long Melford, where he spent most of his childhood. His life-long passion for history and geography was sparked by the school’s headmaster, Mr. Chamberlain, who arranged for Jim to do extra studies after school. Jim fulfilled his dream of completing a history degree at York University in retirement.

Jim worked for The Bank of Nova Scotia in Montreal, Jamaica, and Toronto for more than 35 years. In retirement, he volunteered at a local elementary school and travelled to almost every place he dreamed of visiting with Barbara, the love of his life. He lived every day with grace and gratitude and was blessed with an ever-growing sense of humour. His family and friends hold dear the memories of him dancing, singing, telling stories, and deepening conversations with historical perspective.

Jim was cared for at home by his devoted wife and compassionate healthcare professionals. The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who supported his care at home and to the doctors and nurses at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Jim's life will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Smith’s Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line, Burlington. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Paul the Apostle, 2265 Headon Road, Burlington. Donations to the Parkinson’s Society of Canada would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
