Obituary for William Douglas "Bill" Collier

William Douglas "Bill"  Collier
COLLIER, William (Bill) Douglas –
Born in Fortune, Newfoundland on April 23, 1939, passed away on July 25, 2018 at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington, Ontario, in his 80th year. After having cancer three times, Bill survived an additional 22 years, then passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Leaving to mourn, his devoted wife of 59 years, Doreen Jean Collier (nee Thompson), daughter Deborah Bell (Mark), son Douglas Collier (Crystal), grandchildren Allison Bell (John), Jake and Nicole Collier, step-grandchildren Alyssa and Cam Hardy.
Leaving also sister Nina Guinane (John), Victoria, BC., brother Edward (Roanne) Collier, Yarmouth, NS., sister-in-law Fern Collier (late Chesley), Milton, ON, and special niece in Newfoundland Clarissa Collier and many other special nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents Charles Clyde and Clarissa Collier, brothers Charles (Jean), Knowlton, Chesley Collier.
Bill retired from Goodyear Canada after more than 30 years service in 1994.
Also leaving to mourn, Doreen’s family Douglas Thompson (Olivia), Lenore Howitt (Ray), Evelyn Phelps (late Paul), Sharon Allen (Ron), Arthur Thompson (Shirley), Ann Thompson (late Ken), Donald “Charlie” Thompson (Evelyn), David Thompson (Brenda), Kevin Thompson (Lorie) and Brenda Doyle (Dana).
Predeceased by parents-in-law Harold and Jean (Ferris) Thompson, and brothers-in-law Kenneth, Paul Phelps, sisters-in-law Valarie, Sylvia Hambly, Ruth Desroche (Al) and John Major.
Bill was a fantastic speaker, and was Master of Ceremonies for many Thompson weddings, and many variety shows at Antrim Glen. Bill and Doreen also spent many years enjoying travel across Canada from Newfoundland to British Columbia, and California. Enjoyed winters in Florida and, until 2014, winters in Antrim Glen, moving to Burlington in 2014. Spent the majority of married life in Oakville from 1966-2004. Bill loved Euchre, Bowling, Horse Shoes, and Pig Roasts, of which we had many in Oakville.

Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON, 905-632-3333 on Sunday, July 29, 2018 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. where a Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Burlington. Reception back at the Funeral Home after interment.
If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
