Obituary for Henry Joseph "Harry" Murphy

MURPHY, Henry Joseph (Harry)
On Tuesday, July 10, 2018, surrounded and gently serenaded by his loving family, Harry passed away at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington at the age of 89. Beloved husband of 62 years of Margaret (nee Anderson). Loving father of Helen Murphy-Hage (Hank), James (Deborah), John (Diane), Patrick, Catherine Bradshaw (Martin), Brian, Peggy Churey and Kieran (Margaret). Cherished grandpa of 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Harry is survived by his sisters Mary Murchland and Winifred Murchland (Francis). Predeceased by his brother, John Murphy (Marion) and brother-in-law, Richard Murchland. He will be dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews and extended family in Northern Ireland. He was very proud of his Irish heritage. Harry shared his love of all things musical. He travelled all over the world and especially loved camping with the family. He was a master woodcrafter and created ‘one-of-a-kind’ gifts for many. Harry was a great storyteller and remembered every detail of every memory he shared. His faith was profound and he led by example. Visitation will be held at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Brant Street at Blairholm Avenue, Burlington on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 10 a.m. Cremation to follow. If desired, donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or Joseph Brant Hospital, in Harry’s memory, would be appreciated.
