Obituary for Colleen Louise Kay

KAY, Colleen Louise
May 25, 1963 - July 3, 2018
With grieving hearts, following a tragic turn of health-related events, we announce the passing at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital of our beloved Colleen, daughter of Brenda (nee Iler) and Ralph deBlauw and Ronald B. Kay. She was predeceased by her younger sister, Marcia Lynn Kay-Collver (June 5, 2013), her much-loved paternal grandmother, Mary Grisafi-Kay, and her Windsor grandparents, Kathleen M. (Scanlan) and Glen T. Iler. Colleen will be missed by her brothers, Michael, Barry and Darrell deBlauw, niece, Alexa-Rae Collver, and her Iler family, mostly residing in the Windsor area. Aunts Linda Iler and Dawn Iler-Martinuzzi have been working tirelessly on behalf of our family. She is remembered as well by her brother-in-law, Donald W. Collver and Gaby Tapia-Collver. Colleen’s long-time constant and best friend for over 50 years, Lorna Snelling, has been a source of strength to our family. Colleen and Lorna spoke almost every day.
As a teenager, Colleen volunteered approximately 500 hours as a Candy-Striper in the Gift Shop of Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital. For several years, she held various positions with construction companies assisting in project management. In the past twenty years she worked as a representative for Avon, and enjoyed interacting with clients, many of whom she considered friends.
Like her Mum, she had a passion for growing orchids and was always thrilled when new blooms occurred. A great pleasure in her life was time spent with her rescued affectionate feline friends, Mason, Beauty and Lucky.
Colleen was blessed with compassionate nurses and doctors who attended to her with loving care --- thank you to all.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 10:30am. Reception to follow. If desired, the family suggests donations to J.D.R.F. (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).
