Obituary for Patricia Mae Truthwaite (Parchem)

Our Never-Ending Love Story

Peacefully at home and as she wished, Pat passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 25th, 2018 at the age of 79.

Pat was a much-loved wife, mother, grandma, sister, sister-in-law and aunt. She will be forever missed by Ian her loving husband of almost 60 years, her son, Dalton, her daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Jay, and her treasured grandson Evan. Also deeply mourning her loss are three sisters (Doreen Franchuk, Brenda Scott and Gail Gibson), sister-in-law Catherine (Ray) LePoidevan, a brother (Don Parchem), and many nieces and nephews who played a special part in her life. She is predeceased by her parents, Helen and Dick Parchem, two brothers, Lloyd and Cecil, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, (Buck and Janet Truthwaite), and parents-in-law (Phem and Mickey Truthwaite).

Mom lived her entire life in Hamilton where most of her family reside. Her favourite pastimes were visiting with family, baking, shopping (never missing an opportunity to visit a “Dollar Store” or Walmart), and travelling to Vancouver to spend time with Dalton and the annual trip to Hawaii. Family was Mom’s lifelong passion, and she believed being the best Mom - which she was - to be the most important job.

One of Mom’s favourite expression was “it will be what it will be”. This served her well through her cancer treatment and complications from chemotherapy. Through these trials, she remained focused on recovering. In spite of many challenges, she kept her spirits high and accepted each hurdle in stride. She never gave up as her love for life and family was too strong. Love for family is her lasting gift. We already miss her more than words can express. Pat’s love, encouragement and happy spirit is our guiding light.

Our family would like to express deep gratitude for the Personal Support Workers and RN Care Team who all provided invaluable support, brightened each day, and made a difference. Also a word of gratitude Dr. Creatchman - her reliable and thoughtful Family Physician.

Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at Christine and Jay's home, 23 Peachwood Crescent, Stoney Creek, on Saturday, July 7, 2018, from 3 - 6 p.m. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Cancer Assistance Program (CAP) in Hamilton.
