Obituary for Clarice Arlene Norman McKee (Gwalter)

Clarice Arlene Norman McKee (Gwalter)
Norman McKee, Clarice A. (nee Gwalter)
December 25, 1925 – June 22, 2018

Clarice passed away peacefully on Friday, June 22, 2018, surrounded by those she loved, at McNally House in Grimsby. She was in her 93rd year. She leaves behind her beloved sons Craig Norman and Ron Norman (Sue), and brother Lloyd Gwalter (Pat). Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren adored their Nan. They loved listening to her share stories of how she grew up, where she worked, and how different life was so many years ago. She loved them all unconditionally and they brought her indescribable joy ~ Tonya (Scott, Jordan), Warren (Jennifer, Triniti, Regan, Connor, Amber), Melanie (Victor, Noah, Nev, Naomi, Nash), Laura (Brent, Stephen), Michelle (Alan, Harper, Ava), Patrick (Gina), Matthew, Tara (Jerry, Isaac, Eli), Erin (Byron), Daine (Liam), Cylus. She will also be missed by many cousins and extended family from the Burke and Coveney families. She is predeceased by her parents Olive and Harry Gwalter, her first husband Ross Allan Norman, her daughter Robin Norman Bowslaugh, sisters Donna Gwalter and Joyce Moore, brother Harry Gwalter, grandson Chaise Norman-Ball, and great grandson Nigel VanderVeen. After raising her family, she began her career as a Nurses Aid, but deep down, she was a fashionista. Besides always looking good and radiating class, she owned the “Clarice Fashions” clothing store in Grimsby. She then became a fashion co-ordinator and buyer for C.J. Eames and Robinsons, before ending her career as an Educator with Shaw College in Toronto. She was the Director of the Fashion Institute of Canada. She loved teaching – it was her most gratifying experience. She also loved her time up north at the cottage. Tobermory was her second home, where she planned to retire with Al. She loved sharing the cottage with her family, and was thrilled that so many memories have been made there. Years after Al passed, Tobermory is also where she met her second husband Harry McKee. She enjoyed many years with him, meeting new people and traveling to all kinds of different places with him. Jerusalem was her favourite. She recalled walking where Jesus walked as an indescribable feeling. She is also predeceased by Harry, and his children David McKee and Heather McKee (Peter Fiff). She is survived by Harry’s children Patricia Hill (Bill), Tom McKee (Ruth) and Jim McKee (Suzanne). Clarice was active in her church and was fortunate to have a large group of friends whom she loved dearly, including Nellie Norman and Cynthia Farr who were always by her side. She loved entertaining (and being entertained!), dark chocolate, roses, reading Scripture, hummingbirds, accessorizing, crossword puzzles, triangle sandwiches, the Toronto Blue Jays, getting her nails done, and everything pink! She was cherished by her family, and all who knew her. She was a classy lady; she was smart, elegant, forgiving and ever loving. She was kind and gentle, which drew people to her. Her presence at family and church events will be sorely missed. She knew how to have fun, but she kept people in line. Her presence demanded respect, and she earned it with her beautiful soul. Although she will be missed, her love of life, church and family will be long remembered. The family will receive friends at STONEHOUSE-WHITCOMB FUNERAL HOME, 11 Mountain Street, GRIMSBY (905-945-2755) on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, June 27, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. Additional visiting will take place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 345 Hamilton Regional Road #8, Stoney Creek on Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 9 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. to celebrate her amazing life. Interment to follow at Grimsby Mountain Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions to McNally House Hospice, Grimsby would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
