Obituary for Robert David Gilkes

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Rob at the Hamilton General Hospital on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the age of 80. Beloved husband of Noella (nee Labine). Loving father of David (Patti) and Brian (Donna). Proud grandfather of Noella Brianne. Dear brother of Vicki Perry (Phil), the late Vera Young (the late Ed) and the late Jack (survived by Jeanette). He will also be deeply missed by many brothers and sisters in law, cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends. Rob was a proud business owner with his brother Jack, running Mountain Mobile Maintenance for over 20 years. After retirement, Rob was a well-known handy man around Stoney Creek. He was always willing to lend a hand - as long as it was done the Gilkes way! As per Rob's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. with Vigil Prayers 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 934 Highway #8, Winona on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
