Obituary for Donald Frederick "Don" Glanville

On Sunday May 27th, at four in the afternoon, this lovely, gentle soul passed. His great strength of spirit amazed all who cared for him during his final days. Don was known to find the humour in any situation and to put others first. He was not a loud man, in fact the opposite is true. He would watch and listen. If there was a job to do, he would do it, and he enjoyed helping others. Don loved the quiet things in life: rowing at the lake, fishing, golfing, scuba diving, making wine, and growing tomatoes. As a boy growing up in Hamilton, he learned how to survive. Street smart and business savvy, he knew how to adapt and thrive facing a myriad of life changes and directions, which led him to the love of his life, Emma. They raised three children, and never wavered as they worked together to build a magical world - they lived it to the fullest. During his health struggles over the past few years, Don always faced his challenges with dignity and respect for those around him. The comments from his caregivers were about how gentle and likable he was. And this is indeed true. He loved life, and he always loved a Merlot and pie of any kind. For Don these were simple honest delights and he loved to share with those around him. A good life and a hard fight to the end. You went quietly and with great care surrounding you. You will always be remembered for your generosity, humour, wit and kindness. And for your deep devotion to Emma and your family and friends. You will be missed and always remembered. Please raise a glass of your choice and celebrate this loving, great man with a smile, and the next time you have some pie, have a bite for Don!
