Obituary for Donald George Spearin

Donald George  Spearin
Passed away in Burlington on May 24, 2018 in his 78th year. Survived by Jean, his loving wife of 50 years with whom he shared many adventures. Devoted Dad and father-in-law to son Chris and his wife Margaret Blenkhorn and son Michael and his wife Donna Trembinski. Adored Papa of Devon and Clara. Dear brother to Ted and his wife Merrily and Sally Kure. Predeceased by his parents Charles and Eleanor and by his in-laws Bob and Clara Facey.

Don was born in Peterborough and moved to Hamilton where he attended Delta Collegiate. He graduated in 1962 from McMaster University in Honours English. Later in 1967, he received an MA in English from the University of Toronto. For several decades Don was a high school English teacher for the Hamilton Board of Education. He was a long-time member of both East Plains United Church and the Hamilton Men’s Teachers Choir. Don was an avid reader, gardener, and traveller.

Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line, BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service at East Plains United Church, 375 Plains Road East, BURLINGTON, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Don’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, East Plains United Church, or a charity of your choice.
