Obituary for Hanne Bodil Jydegaard Card (Nielsen)

Hanne Bodil Jydegaard Card (Nielsen)
CARD, Hanne Bodil Jydegaard (nee Nielsen)
Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, at Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton, on Thursday May 17th, 2018 at the age of 74. Beloved wife of John Card, of Burlington and Kincardine, for 54 years. John and Hanne were married in Melbourne, Australia, in 1964, before moving to Canada in 1968. Loving mother of Michael (Shannon), Graham (Shari), Julie (David Homenuk) and Sarah Card. Proud “Viking Grandma” of nine: Riley, Tia, Tessa, Emelia, Charlotta, Lily, Kate, Hanna and Ryan. Hanne was born and raised in Odense, Denmark and maintained lifelong relationships with her extended Danish family. Predeceased by her parents Jørgen Olav and Gerda Nielsen, and her younger brother Olav Jydegaard. Dear sister-in-law of Lone Jydegaard and beloved aunt of Anne-Marie Jydegaard Axelsen. Hanne was very close with her cousin Elly and the entire Lilienhoff family: Søren, Charlotte, Hans and Marlene. She is survived by her stepmother Ulla Nielsen. Will be missed by the extended Card family in Australia; brother-in-law Allan and his children: Ruth, Tom, David, John, Mary, and Annie. Predeceased by Allan’s wife Margaret. Hanne spent many years working for the Good Shepherd Centre in Hamilton where she helped provide human and social services to those in need by developing and managing new and existing housing projects. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew her in Australia, Denmark and Canada. A memorial gathering to celebrate Hanne’s life will be held at Smith’s Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line, (one stoplight north of the QEW on the East side), Burlington, 905-632-3333 on Sunday June 3rd, 2018 from 3-6 p.m. with tributes at 4 p.m. If desired, donations to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
