Obituary for R. Charles Martell

R. Charles Martell
MARTELL, Richard Charles “Charlie”-
1942-2018
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Richard Charles Martell, age 75, regret to announce his passing on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Charlie passed away peacefully with his loving wife, children and grandchildren at his side. He was the son of the late Fraser and Peggy (Acton) Martell of North Sydney. He grew up in North Sydney, NS where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Diane. Charlie, Diane and his 4 children moved to Burlington, ON in 1981. He was employed with Sandvik Group until his retirement in 2009.
He will always be loved and remembered by his wife Diane of 54 years, and children; Sherry (David Clouse), Tracey (Jeffrey Richey), Steve (Pauline), Fraser (Melinda) and grandchildren; Michael, Danielle, Hannah, Robert, Megan, Ryan, Carson, Kylie and Zachary all living in Burlington, ON.
He was predeceased by his brothers; Sonny, Kenny, Billy (Donna), Ian (Lise), Donald and sisters; Irene (Ken Bungay) and Jeanne Young.
He is survived by his sisters; Kay (Bob Bieren), Lynn (Graeme Mcdonald), Debbie Hopkins and brothers; Sandy and Kevin, all living in Nova Scotia. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Charlie was happiest surrounded by his family and the many pets he had throughout the years. He was an avid animal lover and will be sadly missed by his cat, Scooter.
Special thanks to the compassion provided by the Palliative Care staff on 3 North, at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.
A family memorial service and interment to follow. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Smith's Funeral Home. If desired, donations to the Burlington Humane Society would be sincerely appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be forwarded to the family at www.smithsfh.com
