GATZA, Anne Marie nee Alvord (August 25, 1932 -April 9, 2018)
It is with the greatest of love that we announce the peaceful passing of Anne Marie Gatza, at Burloak Longterm Care Centre, in Burlington, Ontario. Anne is predeceased by her parents, Ethan and Corinthia Alvord. Anne is survived by loving and faithful husband, Eugene Marion, and mother to Susan Gatza (Wayne Wilkins), Carol Winter (predeceased by Neil), James Gatza (Nance), Mary Jane Penrose (Barry), Linda Cassar (Lewis), Mark Gatza (Jane), David Gatza (Penny). Anne is predeceased by son, Brian Gatza (1971). Cherished by grandchildren Brian, Leah (Jeff), Emily, Jeremy (Elizabeth), Jennifer, Nathan (Meghan), Matthew, Andrew, Michael, Katarina, Alexandra, Jack, Abigail and Sarah. Loved by great grandchildren Ashley, Kylie, Evan and Audrey.
Anne was born in Bay City, Michigan, where she married Eugene at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, when she was nineteen years of age. Eager to start a family, together, they raised six children in Bay City, before immigrating to Sarnia, Ontario, where their final two children were born. In 1971, the family moved to Burlington, Ontario, where they became members of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church. Anne joined the Catholic Women’s League at St. Patrick’s Church, and her children attended St. Patrick’s School. When her older children completed their education, and left home, Anne returned to school; she earned her RNA (Registered Nursing Assistant) license. Anne began her nursing career at Maple Villa Long Term Care Centre, and then worked at the School Sisters of Notre Dame Convent (infirmary) in Waterdown, Ontario. Anne made beautiful friendships with Notre Dame staff and residents; she enjoyed those friendships throughout her retirement years. Anne was the life of the party. She enjoyed spending time with people, she loved to share stories and laughter with all. Anne also enjoyed travelling with her family. She thoroughly enjoyed her family trips to New Orleans, La, Williamsburg, Va, Gainsville, Fl., Washington DC, Orlando, Fl, New York, NY, as well as day trips around the province. She loved the live theatre, going out for a fine meal, and taking long walks with Eugene. Anne was always up for an adventure. Anne was a truly happy, kind and generous spirit; she will be missed by all, especially her family.
Visitation will be held at Smiths Funeral Home (1167 Guelph Line), on Friday, April 13, from 3-5 pm, and 7-9 pm. Prayer vigil at 8 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (196 Kenwood Ave) on Saturday, April 14th at 9 am. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
