Obituary for Lesley Pauline Cunningham (Oakden)

CUNNINGHAM, Lesley Pauline
nee Oakden
It is with sadness but also with the fondest of memories and greatest of love that we announce the passing of Lesley Pauline Cunningham (nee Oakden) after a short but very brave battle with cancer which she courageously fought right until the end, succumbing to her illness surrounded by family at Joseph Brant Hospital on April 2, 2018. Born in Manchester, England on October 30, 1945, Lesley and her husband Robert immigrated to Canada together a week after being married, sacrificing and risking all to begin a new life and raise a family, a life full of adventure and love. Joining her in Canada a few years later was her sister and best friend Vivian Smith, her husband Joe (predeceased) and children Mandy (predeceased), Simon and Gary as well as her parents Jack and Joyce (nee Wright) Oakden (predeceased). The two families remained close, sharing many wonderful trips, holidays and events together. Lesley loved to travel, play Ukulele, ride her beloved horse Layla and spend time at the trailer at Century Beach. Missing her more than words can express are; husband Robert, sons Paul (Jessica), Mark, Mike (Jen) as well as grandchildren Rachael, Chelsea, Keirin, Ryan and Emma. Sister Vivian and nephew’s Simon and Gary. Auntie Bibby’s granddaughter Jenna, will also miss her great aunt. We wish to thank and recognize her family around the world (England, Scotland, United States, Canada, Argentina) as well as all of the friends she made through the Burlington Centaurs rugby club, card nights, ukulele band, Milestone stables, and Halton Honda. She made friends with whoever she met, wherever she went. As per Lesley’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 6-9p.m. Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, May 6th from 3-6 p.m. at the Art Gallery of Burlington. Those wishing to make a donation in her memory are asked to please consider the Good Shepherd.

In the words of her favourite Rod Stewart; Forever young; May good fortune be with you, may your guiding light be strong, build a stairway to heaven with a prince or a vagabond, Forever young.
