Larry Laverne Wilson
Larry Laverne Wilson (80) of Burlington, Ontario passed away on Tuesday, March 27th, 2018 at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington.
Larry was born on Sunday, September 26th, 1937 in Port Elgin, Ontario to David and Gertrude Wilson (Schell). He was married to Elenor Robb in Clifford, Ontario, on Saturday, July 20th, 1963. He was a devoted employee of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and enjoyed a successful career with them spanning 37 years, culminating with his role as a Vice President. His employment with them began at the age of 17 in Port Elgin, Ontario and included placements in Hamilton and Toronto, Ontario, Portland, Oregon, and Kingston, Jamaica. Upon his retirement he settled in Burlington, Ontario where he enjoyed pursuing his passion for carpentry and home renovations. Larry was a lover of sports and was always known to follow the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs, and in his younger years he was an avid recreational curler, golfer, squash player and fisherman.
Larry is survived by his partner Bettejane West, and his children Wendy (Elenor), David (Elenor) and Nancy (Elenor). He also leaves behind three wonderful grandchildren Jenna (Wendy), James (Wendy), and William (Wendy). Larry has three surviving siblings: Pat Mahon (Jim), Douglas Lynn Wilson and Brenda Wilson. He is predeceased by his parents and oldest sister, Marguerite Dubinsky.
Larry’s family wishes to thank the highly skilled and compassionate Doctors and Nurses at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington who provided exemplary care and ensured his comfort in his final days, as well as his family and friends who visited to lend their support.
In lieu of flowers, Larry's family kindly requests that those interested please donate to either of the charitable organizations Food4Kids Halton, or the Canadian Cancer Society on his behalf (information below).
Larry will be remembered in many ways by his family and friends. One thing Larry often referred to in good spirit was a quote from the famous New York Yankee, Yogi Berra, who said “It ain’t over till it’s over”, which at once revealed Larry’s relentless perseverance, his love of an underdog and his wry sense of humour.
Rest in peace Dad, we miss you.
