Obituary for Stanley Earl Sykes

Stanley Earl Sykes
SYKES, Stanley Earl
Passed away in his sleep at his residence at Burloak Long Term Care in Burlington, Ontario on Thursday February 22, 2018 at the age of 87. Stanley is survived by his wife Marjorie (Field) of 15 years, sons Ross (Catherine) of Toronto, Neil (Deborah) of Burlington and step daughters Lynda (Chris) Atack, Cynthia (Francis) Cavanaugh, and Nancy Field. Dear grandfather of Laura (Scott Rankin), Stephanie, Brian and Richard. Step grandfather of Dan Atack, Grace Cuttle, Julia Atack and Charlotte Cuttle. Nieces Elaine MacMillan, Gail (Joe) McCarty, Stephanie Sykes and nephews Bill MacMillan and Vern MacMillan. All will forever remember Stan’s smile and kind heart.
Stanley is predeceased by his mother Eliza, his first wife Shirley (Wilson), twin daughter’s Shirley and Sheila (born prematurely), his sisters Marion Towner and Eileen Murray and his brothers Harold and Vern.
Stan entered the workforce at the early age of 16 and worked for over 50 years, starting in a butcher shop before becoming an electrician. He was passionate about his work and ended his career owning an electrical contracting business, before retiring at 68. He continued to work part time for a couple years after and still had many years of enjoyable retirement. He often mentioned that he didn’t know how he ever had time for work with the busy social calendar he and Marjorie kept.
Stan was an avid golfer and there were many years that the weekend foursome included Stan, Shirley, Ross and Neil, creating memories that will be forever cherished.
A special thank you to the staff at Burloak Long Term Care for their compassionate and genuine caring way in which they spoiled Stanley.
Stanley’s remains have been cremated and the family will gather for a private interment.
In lieu of flowers, Stan would have wanted you to spend a few extra hours with those you love. Donations to a charity of your choice would also be appreciated
