Condolence From: Patricia Brennan Ricknell
Condolence: I was a year behind Simon at St. Patrick's Elementary School (and my brother Robert was in Emma's class) and was really shocked to hear from my mom that he had died. I am so very sorry. I just wanted to say to you Ceri that you are not alone and I hope your family and friends are helping you get through each day now. I too was widowed young (in my case with 3 small kids). I didn't have any grief counseling but I did read one book that helped immensely: The Other Side of Sadness. It's a scientific approach to bereavement. The main theme is resilience. And the message is hopeful. Just a tip, and you're probably overloaded with people trying to help. But as a bereaved person, it really made a difference in my life and helped me believe that I would get through everything. I hope it can help you too.

Condolence From: Fiona Mascarenhas
Condolence: My heartfelt condolences to Simon's family at this difficult time. We were classmates at St. Patrick's Elementary and Assumption High School. Even though I hadn't seen Simon in decades, I've always felt St. Pat's kids have a connection. I am terribly saddened to hear of his passing. I remember Simon's love for soccer and his awesome talents on the pitch were second to none. He had a wonderful ability to make people laugh, especially with his quick and witty comebacks followed by his cute, but mischievous, grin. May your memories comfort you. With deepest sympathy, Fiona Mascarenhas and family

Condolence: It’s so sad to hear of Simon’s passing. My condolences to his mom, his wife, his sons and his sisters. There were few, if any, rep soccer players who had Simon’s talent and skills, and none who enjoyed scoring a goal more. The words on these pages clearly show how much he was loved and admired and how much everyone enjoyed his spirit and passion. He’ll be missed, for sure.

Condolence: It was a shock to hear of Simon's death. I taught Simon at St. Pat's. He came to our house with our son David. Simon was always relaxed and fun, not easy when you are at your teacher's house. He was a fine young man. It looks like he continued that way into adulthood. it was a pleasure to know him." What a great husband, father, son, brother, athlete and of course.....friend he was! You're gone but not forgotten Si! Simon was a stand up guy and will be missed very much by those closest to him. I will always remember him as an amazing teammate that would get stuck in and defend anyone on his team ...A couple of puffs of the inhaler and off for another tackle.I will also remember some of the team outings we did Downtown TO when we would try climbing a pole out front of a bar and tell the bouncers to f off!!! or our road trip to Windsor..lots of great Soccer memories..."I've learned that a lot of people will forget what you said, Some people will forget what you did, but no one will forget how you made them feel." One of my most favourite quotes that I read in times like this.. Hang in there my friend. D.

Condolence From: The Roti Family
Condolence: Words cannot define the pain we feel for the loss of our friend, who we considered our family. Simon was truly one of a kind, warm hearted and generous. The "Roti's" as he called us, experienced his unconditional love to his wife Ceri and boy's Ethan and Landon. We first met 5 years ago and our families have been inseparable ever since. We watched the passion of soccer that he passed down to so many young talented boys that had the honour of being coached by "Coach Simon". From the pitch to his house, we shared many nights of 80's music, unstoppable beverages and never ending laughter. We have endless memories that we will cherish forever. Countless vacations, countless rum runners, countless laughs and now countless tears. The "Roti's" are devastated, he enriched our lives and we will never forget him. Our deepest condolences to Ceri, Ethan and Landon, we are here for you anytime, all the time. Rest in peace Simon, missed you will be. We love you. Vince, Vanda, Dante & Chiara Roti

Condolence: It was only 6 weeks ago roughly when Simon and I reconnected via text after which so much time passed since high school and my move to Vancouver. I am still going through the motions as a result to the shock of his death. I told everybody since high school that Simon always cared for my well being and had a sense of kindness towards me. Simon will always be remembered to me. No question. May Simon rest in peace as we mourn this loss.
