Obituary for Elizabeth May Carver (Catley)

Elizabeth May Carver (Catley)
Peacefully at Alexander Place, Waterdown Ontario, Elizabeth (Bette) Carver in her 95th year left this world to join her beloved late husband of 60 years, Warren (2005).

Loving Mum and Nan to Chris (Beth) Carver and their children Stephen, Andrea (Sean) MacDonnell; Lesley (Tom) King and their children Bradley King and his wife Amy Mach, Lindsay King and her husband Nathan Bamsey. Daughter of the late George Catley (1936) and Mary Ann Duling Catley (1969). Sister to late Mary (Floss), Irene, Ellen and Ada. Dear sister-in-law Margaret (David) Lawrence of St. Catharines.

Born in St Pancras, London, England in February 1923, she spent her early years in London. Her first job was at Gilbeys’ Distillery before joining the RAF in 1940 where she became known as Bette. There she met Warren at Camp Bicester. She became a Lead Aircraft Women and ended her military career at “The Round House” (Records) in Gloucester, England. She was discharged in August 1945. Warren and Elizabeth were married on March 10, 1945 in London before Warren returned to Canada. She followed him as a “War Bride” to Timmins, Ont arriving in January 1946. She thought that she had arrived at the end of the Earth with only snow and cold weather to be seen. Their early married life was spent in Timmins and in 1952 they moved to St. Catharines, Ont where they lived until Warren’s retirement. Upon Warren’s retirement, they moved to Burlington. Bette’s priorities revolved around her husband and family. She enjoyed planning family celebrations and was so proud of her children and grandchildren.

The family wishes to express a huge thank you to the staff at Alexander Place, in particular Home Area 3 for the excellent and loving care that they gave Mum. Private family enichement at Bayview Gardens, Burlington Ont. For those who wish, donations may be directed to a charity of choice.
