Obituary for Nora Henrietta Franko (Hurst)

FRANKO, Nora Henrietta (Hurst)
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Nora on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the age of 85. She is at peace, no longer trapped within the confines of her illness, dancing her way through heaven. Loving wife and best friend of George for 61 wonderful years. Mother of Norrie Franko, Adrian (Cynthia) Franko and Paula (Michael) Weber. Grandmother of Christina, Alyssa, Chantal, Stephanie and Nicole. Sister of Tom Hurst and Vera Edwards. She is predeceased by her sons Kevin and Gregory, her sisters Sarah, Elsie and Betty and her brother George. Nora was born in England, the youngest of 7 children and came to Canada in 1955. She met the love of her life, George, who she married in 1956. They spent their life together in Grimsby, and danced their way across Canada on family vacations. Nora was always a loving mother and role model, gently encouraging her children and the many students she taught to follow their dreams. She spent her final years living in Albright Manor in Beamsville with her husband George. Nora will live on in the lives of her children, and grandchildren. Visitation at STONEHOUSE-WHITCOMB FUNERAL HOME, 11 Mountain Street, GRIMSBY (905-945-2755) on Wednesday from 3 - 6 p.m. with Vigil Prayers at 4:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 135 Livingston Avenue, Grimsby on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 11 am. Interment Queen’s Lawn Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Nora are asked to please consider Covenant House, the Red Cross or St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church.
Nora loved the poem “Do not stand at my grave and weep” by Mary Elizabeth Frye
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
- Mary Elizabeth Frye
