McCarthy, John Douglas

Passed away peacefully at The Carpenter Hospice on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the age of 77. Beloved husband of Patricia for 53 years. Loving father to Cheryl (Jamie) Bredin, Michael (Maria) McCarthy, and Jamie (Tammy) McCarthy. Cherished grandfather of Steven, Allison, Geoffrey, Taylor, and Julia. Predeceased by his grandson Christopher. Doug had a special relationship with Courtney and Curtis Bredin and Dominique and Marc Reyes. Doug will be missed by his brother Gary (Catherine) McCarthy, of Vancouver, sister Dorothy (Dave) Alford , of Hamilton, and by his niece Sarah McCarthy of Vancouver.
After retirement, Doug enjoyed his 20 plus years of work as a courtesy driver at Budd's Imported Cars, Oakville. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at Joseph Brant Hospital, Juravinski Hospital, and the Carpenter Hospice for your continued care and compassion. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 3 - 5 and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church (196 Kenwood Avenue, Burlington) on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 10a.m. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Carpenter Hospice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
