Gladys Skerrett (Justason)
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Gladys on December 14, 2017, in her 100th year, after a life well lived. She was the beloved wife of the late Ken (d.2001), dear mother to Pam (Bill), Karen (Paul, d. 2002), Steve (d. 2013) (Deb) and Barb (Dan). She was the caring grandmother to 6 grandchildren and the fun-loving Nannie to 6 great-grandchildren. Gladys served with the Canadian Women’s Army Core for five years and spent one year overseas where she met and married Ken at the end of WWII. She was a life member of the Canadian Legion Branch 60 where she served on the Ladies Auxiliary. She was a life member of the Joseph Brant Hospital Auxiliary, with 32 years of volunteer service. She was a life member of the Burlington Association for Community Living, having served as a volunteer at the Happy Hour Nursery for twelve years and was on the board of the BACL for four years. In recognition of her lifetime of volunteering, she received the Paul Harris Citizens award from the Burlington Lakeshore Rotary Club in 1982. She also was awarded the Commemorative Medal for the 125th anniversary of Confederation, the Defence Medal, the Volunteer Medal and the War Medal for service from 1939 through 1945. The family wishes to thank from the bottom of our hearts, Bevy her special buddy and caregiver of almost two years as well as Jay and Lorna who have spent special time caring for mom in her home. A big thank you also goes to Jacquie (PSW), her scrabble playing partner, and Almaz (PSW) who spent many hours caring for her. These lovely angels made it possible for mom to stay in her own home as per her wishes. The family also wishes to thank Natalie of the HNHB LHIN and the nurses from St. Elizabeth for their care and compassion towards mom. We like to acknowledge the DVA for all they have done for mom over the years. Their support helped mom stay comfortably in her home. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street (one block North of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 12 – 1 p.m. Funeral Service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy can be made in mom’s name to the BACL or the Salvation Army.
