Obituary for Simon Albert Dykema

Simon Albert Dijkema

Siddeburen, Netherlands April 5, 1928-- Orillia, Canada November 25, 2017

Kind, caring, and curious about everything and everybody.
Always willing to help even if it inconvenienced him.
The eternal optimist who never let the struggles of life get him down.
These are just some of the qualities we will miss in the man we had the privilege of calling Dad. Even when his body was failing him, he remained true to his character.
His faith in God was fundamental in his life. He went peacefully to be with his Lord and leaves a legacy of love behind.
He will be sadly missed by all who were touched by his incredible spirit.

He was a loving husband to his wife of 61 years, Boukje (Bea) Dykema, and a devoted father to Kelvin (predeceased) and Joanne VanderPlaat, Helen and Simon VanTol, Elsa and Michel Moreau, Kathleen and Kirill Richine. Fondly remembered by all his grandchildren: Becky Dykema, Meaghan Millman (Isaiah), Stefan Dykema (Shaylene) Jordan Dykema (Kyla), Tayah McKenzie (Clay), Joshua Price, Mike VanTol (Ashley), Marc VanTol (Hillary), Jon VanTol (Dana), Jessica VanTol (Jamie Seabrook), Elyse Moreau, Emmanuelle Moreau (Jeremy Faulkner),Eva Moreau (Lukas Gehring ), Eliane Moreau (Anthony Peiry), Emilia Moreau, Ivan Richine, Anton Richine, and Olivia Richine. Proud great-grandfather to Daniel, Jeremy and Alee VanTol, Sophie and Liam Dykema, Ryker and Levi VanTol, Sam and Mia Millman, Olive and Felicity Faulkner, Lillian and Brooklyn Dykema, and TBA baby VanTol

Memorial contributions may be made in his honour to http://indwell.ca/ , a charitable organization providing affordable supportive housing for vulnerable adults. Dad was an avid supporter and spent many hours volunteering at various locations doing maintenance and repair work.

Visitation will be held at Providence Christian Reformed Church, 4845 King St, Beamsville, ON L0R 1B6 on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 9:30 AM. Funeral service following at 10:00, interment at Grimsby Mountain Cemetery, then returning to the church for a light lunch.
