Hopkins, Venerable Dr. Stephen Frederick,
At Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton on Saturday, October 28, 2017, of complications of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Beloved husband of Elizabeth Wensley, and adored father of Clare Elizabeth and Rosemary Anne. Lovingly remembered by his sister, Nancy Bard, nieces Stephanie and Natalie and great nephew Jackson as well as his sister-in-law, Catherine Wensley, niece Alison Gilday and nephew Max Gilday. Predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Norma Hopkins. A keen student, Steve completed his undergraduate degree at McGill before pursuing graduate work at the University of Toronto where he earned an MA in Theology (St. Michael’s College), an MEd (OISE) and a DMin (Trinity College). He was a Program Consultant in the Diocese of Toronto before his appointment as Director of Program in the Anglican Diocese of Niagara. Ordained priest in 2001, Steve then served as Rector of St. John the Evangelist, Hamilton, St. Christopher’s, Burlington and St. Paul’s, Westdale. Everywhere he went, he worked to create communities committed to openness, inclusion and justice. Visitation at St. Christopher's Anglican Church, 662 Guelph Line, Burlington on Thursday November 2, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. where a Funeral Eucharist will be celebrated on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow in the Great Hall. Private Cremation to take place. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Brian Leber and the wonderful physicians and staff associated with the Hematology Service at Juravinski Hospital. For those who wish, donations in memory of Stephen to the Art Gallery of Hamilton, the Hematology Service at Juravinski Hospital, or the Synod of the Diocese of Niagara Steve Hopkins Leadership Fund would be appreciated by the family.
