Obituary for William "Bill" Forbes

Peacefully, on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, in his 91st year, Bill passed away at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital. Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Lewis), son Kevin, daughters Cindy Organ (Pius), Tracey Danowski and Carrie Dudley, grandchildren Darcie, Chelsea, Jared, Matthew, Shaye (Joe), Jeffrey, Cheryl, Noah, Wyatt and Paige, great-granddaughter Dayna and sisters Cecilia and Jean. Bill was predeceased by sons-in-law Brian Danowski (2015) and Frank DeFelice (2017), and by brothers Duncan, Val, Allister, sisters Jennie, Barbara, Margaret, Mary, Isabel, Christene, Florence and parents Alec and Cassie (Chisholm). Bill was born on December, 25th 1926 in Marydale, Nova Scotia, and spent his youth in St. Andrews, Antigonish, Nova Scotia. After graduating from St. Francis Xavier University, Bill made his way to Ontario where he joined Westinghouse in Hamilton working in Industrial Engineering. It was at Westinghouse that Bill met Dorothy (Dot) and they married in 1954. Bill and Dot joined the Grimsby Home Building Co-operative that built 21 new homes using the owners’ sweat equity, a home that they resided in for over 60 years. Bill loved the outdoors and could always be found on the Bruce Trail on the Niagara Escarpment with his black Labrador Retrievers faithfully at his heels. Bill spent over 30 years as a volunteer Bruce Trail Captain, improving and maintaining the trails and washrooms for everyone to enjoy. After retiring in 1987, Bill volunteered with the Red Cross driving patients to hospital or clinic appointments. In addition, Bill and Dot delivered “Meals on Wheels” around Grimsby for years. Bill had many hobbies over the years including gardening, wood working and home renovation. He took great pride in keeping his lawn and gardens looking their best. The family would like to thank the staff of B Ward at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital for their kindness, care and comfort during his stay. Cremation has taken place and celebration of his life will take place at STONEHOUSE-WHITCOMB FUNERAL HOME, 11 Mountain Street, GRIMSBY (905-945-2755) on Saturday, September 23, 2017, from 3 - 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
