Memories of Helen

Mike and I were very sad after hearing that Helen had passed away. Upon reflection, we feel very fortunate to have been part of Helens journey. Helen became part of my life as soon as Sylvie and I became good friends in 1983 as we both studied at McMaster University. She made sure to send care packages with wonderful treats for Sylvie to share with me. Years later, once Helen moved to southern Ontario, we were able to share many wonderful times with her, Sylvie and John. Helen was always excited for Christmas to come and she was always sure that those important to her got something special made by her. What I admired the most about Helen was her great sense of humour and how grateful she was about anything you would do for her or give her. We were very fortunate to spend the many key holiday events (Xmas, New Years, Easter, Thanksgiving, birthdays and summer BBQs) with her, Sylvie and John. It was wonderful to see Helens positive outlook to overcome any mobility difficulty in order to spend time with family and friends. Helen was so happy and thankful to participate in these extended family dinners and get-together. Helen loved to contribute dishes and certainly enjoyed consuming the wide variety of foods and drinks that provided the foundation for the given events theme. We especially have fond memories of the Xmas and birthday gifts that Helen would hand-make and proudly offer them to various recipients. Helen loved to read and it was always enjoyable to talk about books with her. Helen, maybe not surprisingly, had a wide variety of interests; again it was a pleasure to talk about these interests with her. Helen was a wonderful person and had a kind loving soul. We will miss her very much and we will always cherish all our memories of her. Our sincerest condolences to Helen' s family, Herminia and Mike
