Obituary for Kenneth Garven "Ken" Sutherland

We are sad to announce the passing of Ken, at home, on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the age of 63. Ken was the much-loved husband of Jill (nee MacKay) and treasured dad to Heather (Mark) Innamorato, Brodie, Andrew (Trish), Evan (Jasmine), and Glendon. He was the loving grandfather to Angus and Ellis. He was the cherished son of Isabel (nee Howard) and the late Hugh Sutherland (1983) and will be missed by his brothers Scott (Barb) and Craig (Kim) and sister Anne (Bill) Cherney. Ken was the dear son-in-law of Irene and the late Jack MacKay (2016) and will not be forgotten by his brother-in-law John (Jessica) MacKay, sister-in-law Melanie MacKay and many nieces and nephews.
Ken was a supportive and caring husband, devoted father and loyal friend, known for his sense of humour, kindness and generosity. Ken put down roots and raised his kids with Jill, not far from where they both grew up in Burlington. As a young man, Ken played hockey and football for Burlington Central High School and later, the Burlington Braves. Ken’s skills as a Master Carpenter were highly respected by his peers and his quality of craftsmanship and attention to detail became greatly valued and admired. Not only was Ken incredibly hardworking, he also knew how to have fun with friends. He had a passion for fishing and hunting, which he shared first with his dad and continued with his children. Always present and giving his time to his children’s sports, activities and special events, Ken was a dad that could always be relied on.
Ken will be forever missed but his incredible legacy will live on through his beautiful work, his loving family and the relationships he had throughout his life.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Wellington Square United Church, 2121 Caroline Street, Burlington, on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at 1:30 pm with reception to follow. For those who wish, donations in memory of Ken may be made to Kidney Cancer Canada.
