Obituary for Jacob Hordyk

Jacob (Jake) Hordyk, our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2017 at the age of 93. He was born in Rotterdam, Holland and immigrated to Canada in 1952 with his wife Dina and 2 young daughters. Settling in the Hamilton area, Jake worked at Stelco for 13 years before establishing Hordyk Construction. Working together, Dad and Mom built our first home, continually improving it as time and money allowed. Dad was known for the homes he built and quality workmanship. Even in his 80’s, he was still being asked to help others with their woodworking projects. Dad was a member of the Mount Hamilton Christian Reformed Church community throughout his life time. Predeceased by his wife Dina, married for 65 years. He will be sadly missed by his children, Ellie Reitsma (Frank Lauinger), Gerda (Frank) Christensen , Trudy (Nick) Battaglio, and Ed (Helen) Hordyk. Dad was a grandfather to 9; Scott (Colleen) Reitsma, Mark ( Shannon) Reitsma, Matt Reitsma, David (Trish) Augerinos, Jillian Battaglio (Karlin Gamache), Jason Battaglio, Rachael (Vince) Consoli, Beth Hordyk and Jake Hordyk Jr. He was also the proud grandfather of 6 great-grandchildren. He will be fondly missed by his good friend Ingrid Juraschka. A private family interment has taken place. All are welcome to join us for a Celebration of Life at Mount Hamilton Christian Reformed Church, 1411 Upper Wellington Street, Hamilton on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 11:30a.m. Luncheon to follow at the church in the Fellowship Hall. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Jake are asked to please consider Shalom Manor, Grimsby.
