Obituary for Joyce Turner Edwards (Ramsay)

Joyce Turner Edwards (Ramsay)
EDWARDS, Joyce Turner (nee Ramsay)
Peacefully at The Brant Centre on Monday, July 17, 2017 in her 93rd year. Predeceased by loving husband Derek (January 12, 2017). Dear mother of Bruce (Trish), Frances (Dana) Smyth, and loved father-in-law of Gail. Cherished grandmother of Lori (Michael) Rosenberg, Katie and Jenny Edwards. Survived by sister Doris Ramsay. She will be dearly missed by extended family and friends. Born in Vancouver, Joyce moved to Winnipeg at the outbreak of WWII where she met Derek at war's end, finally settling in Burlington to raise the family. She was a woman of wit and grace, passionate about the arts and social justice, known for her warm hands and heart. She was a long-time member of the Ladies' Auxiliary at St. Luke's and the Burlington Arts and Letters Club, seamstress, artist and lover of multiple crafts, actress at Burlington Little Theatre, enthusiastic curler/performer at Burlington Curling Club, joyful world traveller and the best grandma a girl ever had. She and Dad started a new adventure in their fifties when they took the opportunity to work for Aramco in Saudi Arabia, where they made wonderful new friends and achieved many of their travel dreams. Winters in Corpus Christi and summers at the cottage in Huntsville made for wonderful vacation memories for all of us. A special thanks to the attending nursing staff at The Brant Centre for their kind care and support and Dr. M. Foster for many years of friendship and care. A Service of Remembrance will be held at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street (one block North of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Friends are welcome to gather from 9:30 until the time of service. Reception to follow. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
