WHALEN, Joanna

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joanna (aka Josie) Whalen on July 17, 2017 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her immediate siblings. Josie was 75 years old, born on April 8, 1942, in Flower’s Cove, NL to parents Frank and Mary Jane Whalen. She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Mary Jane Whalen, her brothers Baxter and Leslie Whalen, sisters Irene Whalen, Marie Morewood, Sybil March and sister-in-law Mary Ann (aka Polly) Whalen and nephew Jock (Marilyn) Whalen. She leaves to mourn sisters Winnifred (Maxwell) Seymour of Burlington, ON, Glenda (Michael) Lloyd of Burlington and brothers Wallace (Rita) Whalen of Oakville, ON and Frank (Sheila) Whalen of Burlington; nieces Krystal (Cam) Seymour, Amanda (Marc) Charlebois, Jackie (Randy) Rodney, Joan (Mladen) Zuvic; nephews Paul (Angie) Whalen, Chad (Niki) Whalen, Jordan (Tina) Seymour, Andrew Lloyd, Alexander Lloyd, Willie (Ivy) Whalen, Gregory (Katrina) Whalen and many good friends. The favorite part of Josie’s career was her last 21 years of employment at Shell Oil Canada before retiring in 1995. She made many lifelong friends there. She also had many very special childhood friends whom she thoroughly enjoyed keeping in touch with and she really enjoyed spending time with the immediate and extended family. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 7-9pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 10:30am. Interment Burlington Memorial Gardens Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in memory of Josie can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
