Obituary for Gismondo DiMartino

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather - better known as "The Candy Man" to those that knew him. He was a strong willed man that did not let any ailments stop his spirit from living life to the fullest. Gismondo passed away at Pine Villa Nursing Home, on Sunday, July 16, 2017, in his 88th year. Beloved husband of Italia (nee DiGennaro) for over 63 years. Loved father of Rose D'Antonio (Louie), Gino DiMartino (Helen) and Michelina Taraschi (Romeo). Cherished grandfather of Christine Ferreira (Miguel), Lisa D'Antonio, Daniel DiMartino (Enza), Kristen DiMartino, Michelle Taraschi and Michael Taraschi and great-grandfather to the love of his life - Mia, Matteo and Luca. Dear brother of Nella Mucci (late Nicola) and the late Bettina DiMartino (late Vincenzo) and the late Petronilla DiNatale (late Berto). Dear brother-in-law of Spinella DiStefano (late Nicola), Lina DiPietro (late Battista), Iola DiNicola (Pietro), Rosa Mascia (Ralph), Pierina DiPaolo (late Luigi) and Santino DiGennaro (Maria). He will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Pine Villa, especially Dr. Ambis and Karen, Sabina and Branka, for all of your care. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, from 3-5 and 6-9 p.m. Prayer Vigil Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, 304 Highway 8, Stoney Creek, on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at 10 a.m. Entombment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions to the Good Shepherd - Martha House (in memory of Dorothy) or Cancer Assistance Program would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
