Obituary for Alfons "Tolo" Ryttel

Alfons "Tolo" Ryttel
RYTTEL, Alfons (Tolo). November 18, 1916 ~ June 20, 2017.
Recently (November 2016) we had the honor of celebrating with family and friends Tolo’s 100th birthday. It was a joy to have you all with Dad for this special occasion. Sadly, Alfons Ryttel (Tolo) passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 20, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Health Center in Toronto. He was 100 ½ years young.
Tolo is pre-deceased by his wife and life partner Eva (March 2007), children Mary-Anne Ryttel-Reason and Peter Ryttel (Kim) and beloved grandchildren: David Reason, Chrissy Reason-Bjegovich (Rob), Nicole Ryttel, Charlie Ryttel, and great-niece Ania Ryttel. Additionally, he is survived by his brother-in-law Ted Popiel and the entire Popiel family in Ontario, the Watkins and Wood families in Massachusetts, and the Ryttel and Gul families in Poland. “Pan Tolo” also belonged to an amazing group of very close friends from Montreal, Lac Cloutier, and Florida who we considered “our family”.

Tolo fought a valiant fight until the very end. At St. Joseph’s he received excellent and compassionate care and the family is very grateful.
Tolo was an accomplished Professional Civil Engineer with Canada Cement/Lafarge for three decades.
Tolo was most significantly the head of our family: always willing to offer guidance, direction, hope and love, but most importantly: a hand to hold, and hugs as needed. He will be deeply missed.
Private cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. For those who wish, donations in memory of Tolo to the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation will be sincerely appreciated.
